Concord, N.H. Governor Kelly Ayotte underscored the importance of civic engagement and public service at today’s inauguration of New Hampshire’s Kid Governor, Jade Adams. “Congratulations to Kid Governor Jade Adams and our new Kid Executive Councilors! I am so proud of these students for getting involved in civics and public service at such a young age,” Ayotte remarked. “By working hard, listening to one another, and continuing to find ways to serve their communities, I know they will help lead our state to an even brighter future.”

The event brought together key figures in New Hampshire’s government, including Speaker Sherm Packard, Senate President Sharon Carson, Councilor Karen Liot Hill, Secretary of State David Scanlan, and New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice Gordon MacDonald. Outgoing Kid Governor Ellie Lively and the 2024 Kid Executive Council were also present to pass the torch to the new slate of young leaders.

New Hampshire’s Kid Governor program, an award-winning civics initiative, is run by NH Civics in partnership with the New Hampshire Institute of Politics and was originally developed by the Connecticut Democracy Center (CTDC). The program provides fifth-grade students with an opportunity to learn about government, elections, and leadership through a hands-on approach, culminating in the election of a peer to serve as Kid Governor.

Jade Adams, this year’s Kid Governor, was elected on a platform advocating for a ban on animal testing in New Hampshire. Her campaign, driven by a passion for ethical treatment of animals, resonated with students across the state, reflecting the growing awareness and activism among young people on important societal issues.

Governor Ayotte’s presence at the ceremony not only reinforced the significance of the Kid Governor program but also highlighted her administration’s commitment to fostering civic participation at all levels. By encouraging young people to take an active role in public service, Ayotte continues to champion the values of leadership, responsibility, and community engagement that have long been hallmarks of New Hampshire’s political tradition.

As Jade Adams and her Executive Council begin their tenure, Ayotte’s message was clear: the future of New Hampshire is in the hands of those willing to serve, listen, and lead—and it is never too early to start.
